The Palais des congrès de Montréal is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

Since its opening on May 27, 1983, the Palais has played an essential role in promoting Montreal as a global destination for international events, conferences, exhibitions and business gatherings.

In 40 years, the Palais has hosted more than 9,000 events, attracting more than 23 million visitors from around the world and generating more than $7 billion in economic spinoffs. Its wide variety of gatherings, including international summits, science conventions, trade shows and public exhibitions, have made it an essential hub for knowledge-sharing, business opportunities and new discoveries.
Over the years, the Palais’ incredible spirit, flexibility and innovation have played a major part in boosting the international standing of Montréal and the province of Québec. By hosting conferences and international conventions, it has also helped to disseminate knowledge and advance the province’s academic, scientific, medical and technology sectors.

The Palais has adopted sustainable practices across the board. With its greenhouse gas offset programmes, sustainability action plan and 100% carbon-neutral building, the Palais des congrès has made sustainable development a key priority. This year has also seen the re-opening of the Palais’ green roof, a testing ground and showcase for urban farming technologies and techniques in Québec. By encouraging responsible local procurement and reducing its energy consumption, the Palais continues to innovate and promote best practices in sustainability.
