Spectrum: The human voice, in sound and light

Spectrum

Spectrum, the interactive installation produced by Montréal’s Mirari studio, is making its official début at the Palais des congrès! This stunning work, which has won several design prizes, transforms the human voice into light signals, and transposes and incarnates sounds in a unique way.

This interactive installation sheds light on the phenomenon of communication, by displaying the path taken by the waves generated by voices and other sounds. Here, the fundamental means of interpersonal communication, speech, is disconnected from language. Instead, it becomes a cascade of waves and luminous pulses, illustrating the fascinating trajectories of sound. Watch as your message moves from one end of the circles to the other. You will see how small gestures – invisible reverberations – can have a big impact.

Spectrum is also a private listening experience, in which you are invited to engage with others in a sound-and-light dialogue. Take some time to listen, in order to see.

The result of a coproduction by Montréal’s Quartier des spectacles Partnership and Manchester’s Quays Culture, Spectrum premiered in December of 2018 in the U.K. as part of the Lightwaves digital light festival, then travelled here to illuminate the Quartier des spectacles in 2019. The Palais will be home to the installation until 2024.

Our capacity to host this amazing work is testimony to the close collaboration among Quartier des spectacles international, the Quartier des spectacles Partnership and the Palais des congrès, all joining forces to make Montréal shine.

An incredible experience awaits you!
