A symbol of Montréal’s energy and innovation, the Palais des congrès is home to a new wonder: La Buvette des lumières. This local bar is no mere wine house. It’s the ideal place for professionals and International District residents to meet in a laid-back atmosphere or for tourists and travellers on business to experience the bustle of downtown Montréal.
Nestled at the foot of the Palais’ signature stained glass windows, La Buvette is all-in on its Montréal identity. Brilliant yellow, pink, blue and green reflections complement the furniture’s solid colours, the surrounding decor’s greenery and the stunning ceiling of multicoloured umbrellas, a global tradition and a symbol of openness to cultural diversity, a core Montréal value.
La Buvette des lumières is sure to please wine enthusiasts. Crafted by local sommeliers, the sharp wine selection offers bottles from Spain, France, Italy and Portugal. Bubbly, white, red, rosé and orange wines will delight casual enthusiasts and connoisseurs alike. The selection will change on a monthly basis, to keep the tasting experience fresh. As for cocktails, expect the local flavours of Nordic rum, buckthorn or even spruce.
The menu at La Buvette des lumières is a love letter to Quebec and showcases our local produce: cheese, charcuterie and vegetables are a testament to the diverse talent of our local producers. In line with its friendly ambiance, the group dishes promote sharing and strengthening ties.
Gaelle Cerf is the creative mind behind the project. She is an entrepreneur with a passion for pop-up and seasonal restaurants. President and founder of the Les Survenants cultural organization, she is famous for having launched Montréal’s first food truck in 2009 and for her leading role in cultural projects like Le Café Viger and the Jardins Gamelin snack bar. She sees this venture in the Palais as an opportunity to craft a one-of-a-kind space at the heart of the International District.
“La Buvette des lumières at the Palais des congrès de Montréal is the perfect meeting spot at the heart of the International District. We hope it becomes a staple to its neighbours, and a showcase of Quebec’s local delicacies to visitors from around the world.” – Emmanuelle Legault, President and CEO of the Palais des congrès de Montréal
