From November 5 to 8, 2025, the Palais des congrès de Montréal hosts the 51st Annual Conference  of the International Society for Pediatric and Adolescent Diabetes (ISPAD), the leading global organization devoted to pediatric diabetes. Researchers, clinicians and patient partners discuss the most recent scientific developments and best practices for improving the quality of life of children with diabetes and of their families.

In an interview with the Palais’ team, the two co-presidents of the Conference and Palais Ambassadors, Dr. Mélanie Henderson and Dr. Julia von Oettingen, explain the significance of the event and Montréal’s important contribution to international research in the field. Expertise based on the work led by Montréal’s major pediatric centres: Hôpital Sainte-Justine and the Montreal Children’s Hospital.

The Montréal edition of ISPAD also put forward a resolutely inclusive approach: the voice of patients and parent partners was made an integral part of the scientific program so as to anchor the research in lived realities. For the co-presidents, this space for dialogue made it possible to sow the seeds for new collaborations, new treatments and new ways of supporting families affected by diabetes.
