Hexaphone: a musical work comes to the Palais’ public space

This fall, the Palais des congrès de Montréal welcomes Hexaphone, an immersive multimedia installation by Montréal studio Troublemakers that gives a new dimension to musical discovery.

Showcasing local talent is fully aligned with the Palais’ vision for its public space: to create a lively and welcoming environment, in the image of Montréal. Visited daily by more than 22,000 people—from here and away—this space seeks to reflect Montréal and Québec’s creativity and to serve as a meeting point for international convention-goers, tourists and locals. Designed by a Montréal studio, and paying tribute to Québec music, Hexaphone will bring this vision to life during its stay at the Palais.

Listening to local creativity

An immersive multimedia installation designed by Troublemakers, a studio specializing in music production and spatialized sound environment design, Hexaphone consists of five modules arranged in a circle, each broadcasting the sounds of different instruments from a musical piece. As the listener approaches a module, their attention is drawn to the particular energy of each component. As they move to the centre of the circle, they experience the different parts coming together to create a spatialized mix of the entire piece. The sound work is discovered as much through movement as through listening.

Hexaphone features six local artists who rerecorded a piece from their repertoire for the project: Les Louanges, The Brooks, Jorane, Kids from the Underground, Errance and Hologramme. Their tracks take on a new dimension here, becoming the raw material for an experience rooted in artistic creation.
